Harry Potter Houses

Well, this post is different from others you will find on my blog. This little preface is just saying that if you are looking for info about day to day life or likes, you won't find that here. This post is a short little writing I have done to describe the Hogwarts houses in ways that are not normally done. Here we go.

Ravenclaw

Being in Ravenclaw is more than smarts and cleverness. It's reading with a hot drink in the common room while a storm rages outside. It's having codes through quotes and giving people nicknames that no one else can understand. It's being able to ask other people for help even when it feels as if it's bringing yourself down. It's staying after class for hours to figure something out and being ecstatic when you finally do. It's not all sunshine and rainbows though. It's also nervous breakdowns before tests and crying in the bathroom so no one can hear you. It's feeling scared to ask for help in case someone else thinks you're stupid. It's not knowing if you'll able to support yourself in the future because you only know how to read not how to do math or anything important. It's failing a test and feeling as if that represents you. It's your boggart being a teacher telling you that you will never amount to anything. It's ignoring the warnings of others because if you stay up for just a few more hours you might finally be able to finish the paper to your satisfaction. It's feeling as if you're drowning on dry land despite how acclaimed everyone says you are. While it can feel as if you are on top of the world, it can also make you feel as if you are the worst person who has ever existed.

Hufflepuff

Being in Hufflepuff is underrated by far. It's hugs and smiles and being there for people who need it. It's sitting around the common room and sharing stories about how you watched your little sister and somehow ended up in Australia. It's wearing cozy clothes and looking adorable even when you're mad. It's being the parent friend of your friend group and knowing that your family will continue to grow. However, it's also lying in bed thinking of your friend who couldn't stop crying earlier. It's worrying that your family actually hates you. It's wondering if anyone at Hogwarts remembers you as anything beyond a person from the throwaway house. It's feeling like you're a throwaway sometimes. It's hearing the stories of the different houses and wondering if there's anything you will ever do. It's hearing that Hufflepuff is nothing, and feeling like you are nothing. It's staying up late with your friend as they tell you that they want to die. It's hearing all the terrible things that others have to share and being unable to tell anyone else about them. While it can feel like being in a big group hug, it can also feel like always being on the outside.

Gryffindor

Being in Gryffindor is feeling as if you can conquer all. It's brawling in the hallways and sharing your bruises and scrapes like badges of honor. It's protecting others despite how scared you are and fighting for the things you believe in with every ounce of your heart. It's being stubborn and never backing down. It's never being the first person to look away from a staring contest. It's choosing to be brave in spite of all the fears you may have. However, it's also hearing a voice in the back of your head telling you that everyone thinks you're ridiculous. It's screaming for hours because the other person just won't agree with you. It's hating those who are on the opposite side of you and then hating yourself for hating them. It's hearing the stories of the amazing things people have done and feeling as if you could never measure up to them. It's being considered the best house to be while feeling as if you are just a farce.

Slytherin

Being in Slytherin is knowing how to get what you want when you want it. It's making business deals and making money quickly and successfully. It's knowing how to charm people and being the most liked person in the room. It's succeeding and being proud of it. It's knowing that speaking your accomplishments is not bragging as long as you do it correctly. However, it's knowing that no matter how much good you do, you will never be seen as a good person. It's knowing that people from your house have done unspeakable things and you will always be associated with them. It's knowing that just the name of your house drives people away from you. It's feeling as if you can never be accepted despite everything you do to be accepted. It's seeing the other houses and wanting to be friends yet never truly finding anyone who would be willing to be associated with you. It may be being able to succeed in life, but it's doing it without any friends.
