The Story of Chara
Hey there! Welcome to my blog! So, as you've probably guessed from the title, this is the story of Chara. At least as much as I know about her story. If you've got anything to add, let me know in the comments! :) Anyways, let's get started!
Chara was the first human to fall into the Underground. Asriel found them and brought them to his parents who just happened to be the king and the queen. The king and the queen adopted them and they became Asriel's sibling and the prince, I guess. There are many different variations of what happens next, so I'm just going with the general consensus. One day, Asriel and Chara decided to make a pie for their father (Asgore, the king). They misread the instructions and put buttercups (the flower) into it. Turns out that buttercups are poisonous and although the king did not die, it set the stage for what would be the turning point of everything. Chara learned about how the monsters could get out - 7 human souls. So, they convinced Asriel to get them buttercups from their father's garden and then they ate them. They became terribly sick and their mother (Toriel, the queen) became extremely worried. As did Asgore but Chara affected Toriel more noticeably in my opinion. Chara made Asriel keep picking buttercups and she kept eating them until she died. Now, I'm not sure what happened afterwards but I'm fairly certain that Asriel took the same route either due to guilt or just wanting to be with his sibling again. This led to Asgore wanting to collect seven human souls to break the barrier so monsterkind could reclaim the surface because humankind was evil. Toriel on the other hand, hated what he was doing. She thought that Chara was proof that not all humans were evil. So, she divorced Asgore and went to live in the Ruins where she stayed and tried to protect those who fell down into the Underground from Asgore.
Now, what I'm about to say is mostly facts. There are some disagreements among the community about how Chara became who they are after they died. Asriel on the other hand, I'm almost 100% sure about. So, I'll start with him. Alphys (another character in the game who is the head royal scientist) was experimenting with souls and created a being that was soulless. That was Asriel. He was now known as Flowy the Flower and wanted to kill everyone. For what reason, I do not know but there are several headcanons floating around out there that you could look for. :) When it comes to Chara, there are two main different sides to what happened to them. Some believe that they latched onto the closest soul to them which just ended up being Frisk. This seems the most likely to me since later in the game if you take the genocide route, you are referred to as Chara. Other people believe they became a vengeful spirit who upon you taking the genocide route, decides to possess Frisk. You can believe what you want.
